Narrow Bridge Films principal, Joe Menendez is an award-winning director, as well as a writer
and producer in both film and television. He is best known for his work
in the family world, having directed (and produced) shows for both Disney Channel and
Nickelodeon, and also BET, as well as movies for Lionsgate and MarVista.
Menendez genuinely thrives and enjoys working in the family world. However, this doesn't necessarily mean he ONLY wants to make movies and TV shows for just kids. Not at all.
That said, to Menendez, the family world provides an opportunity to make the kind of four-quadrant entertainment he really enjoys.
After all, family films and TV shows can run the gamut in terms of
sub-genre. Everything from "The Blind Side" to "Pirates of the Caribbean" is
considered family entertainment, so Menendez knows it's a rich and
varied world in which to work and tell different kinds of stories. He sees fertile ground in
which to make great movies and TV shows that can appeal to a wide range
of people, of all ages.
Which is why Menendez jumped at the chance to direct his newest movie: "3 Holiday Tails" a.k.a "A Golden Christmas 2: The Second Tail" for MarVista Entertainment. It's a romantic comedy that the entire family could see together.
Few filmmakers have dedicated themselves to truly becoming an expert in this world, as Menendez has the last 12 years. Even his previous feature film, the Lionsgate Films heist comedy Ladron Que Roba A Ladron (To Rob a Thief), was most notable because it was widely considered a film that the whole family could see -- even though it wasn't technically a family film.
Although he's dabbled in drama and "embarrassingly violent indie films", and even though Menendez personally loves seeing action movies, when he's telling his own stories, he enjoys the ones with humor, heart... and yeah, some action. But especially the ones with heart.
None of this should come as a surprise to those that know or grew up with Menendez. He's been making light, breezy films with his brother, cousins and friends since he was ten years old in Miami, Florida where he was raised.
He's never been interested in making art house movies that appeal only to an elite fringe -- and he's embarrassed that he's even done so in the past.
Because that's not what he's about.
His tastes were always and still are very broad and mainstream.
And so for the foreseeable future, those are the types of projects his company Narrow Bridge Films (which Menendez formed with his wife Roni) will make: fun, light and breezy -- full of heart and humor (and maybe some action) that the whole family can enjoy.
